and other stuff.
My daughters fourth cake birthday cake, all things under the sea... and a few sea pineapples thrown in as well! Fondant is clearly not my strong point, but sometimes simple can be sweet, and less disheartening when it doesn't take hours to create, when its all sliced up into bits!
This cake was for my sister so there wasn't a huge amount of pressure to get the perfect finish on the icing,,, I found inspiration for this catty cake on Instagram a long while ago, and thought it was ideal for a cat-loving-20-year-old!
I've been doing the Winterton Village sale for 4 years now. So funny to compare the differences from then and now, I'm not sure I knew what Swiss Meringue Buttercream was in 2017, and I definitely was far more reserved with the colour scheme! This year I went all out with flavours, from Tequila and Lime to Fresh Strawberry and Cream, Mocha Cake and Double Choc... but most popular as always was the Victoria Sponge. These sort of table set-ups are super lovely for weddings, especially when presented among amazing floral bouquets!
Anyone who knows me has come to realize, I HATE all things fondant, its hard-work, time consuming, super frustrating... I'm blown away by people who make full-on sculptures effortlessly and enjoy it (aka my older sister) ... So when I was asked to do a Dinosaur Theme cake I was pretty sure it was going to beyond tricky. When I sat down to start it, I realised; I've been practicing with fondant in other peoples style, no I don't have to go full realism, 3D, It's just not me, I'm totally free to play with it in my own way, and have fun with it, without having a nervous breakdown! Haha, so here we are, my first cake with lots of fondant, handcrafted with love, and 0 panic!
What better theme then, ''everything that's currently trending the the world of teenagers'' ... Flamingos, Cactus, Unicorns, Golden Pineapples and Mermaids! The client sent pictures of her daughters ''style'' which was super smart... I need more requests for this sort of thing, pleease!!
A busy cake making Easter, full of chocolate, bunny ears and golden eggs! I fell in love with making that Coral Pink Vanilla Buttercream, such a sweet colour!
I'm a sucker for a fad, I love that unicorn cakes became such a huge thing... and are so mega cute to look at! I wonder whats next... Llamas are are my bet!
I recently discovered www.bakingtimeclub.com which are a super stylish sprinkle company... they're also gluten free and vegan which is mega handy, I sway between them and Sprinkletti for my cake sprinkle needs!
The cake on the left screams summer, when in fact we had a week of heavy snow the day after I made it! Fresh flowers have been on my 'things-to-do' cake list for sometime... and I loved finally getting a chance to play around! Making the cake was the more time consuming part, playing with the arrangement took next to no time! Shout out to the florist who suggested the lilac Roses! And a bargain cake stand from Kitchen Craft, flat edges! The cake on the right was based on the clients own colour scheme, and arrangement, reminds me of a super vintage shabby chic style!
I loved working with Edible Imaging, how super easy and effective! I had no idea you could create such bold looks this way! These were printed at The Cake Decorating Company (I use them ALL the time, super speedy service ect). I would say they're not super cheap, especially the side wrap as you need a lot of image for a 20cm across cake, but perfect for a special occasion!
